About Veranda
Our family's history in Calgary homebuilding began in 1974, when Rob's father began building homes in the city after immigrating from Poland. Growing up around construction, Rob learned the business from the ground up before he and Melissa went on to establish Veranda Estate Homes more than 25 years ago.
Today, Veranda specializes exclusively in new custom home construction throughout Calgary's established inner-city neighbourhoods and surrounding acreage communities.
Rob leads construction while Melissa leads design, allowing the architecture, interiors and execution of each home to be considered together from the beginning. They remain personally involved throughout every project alongside a team of trades, craftsmen and suppliers, many of whom Veranda has worked with for decades.
We intentionally limit the number of custom homes we build each year. It allows our team to remain closely involved throughout the process and gives each home the attention a one-of-one project requires.

Melissa Hryszko
Designer & Co-Owner
Melissa Hryszko is the Designer and Co-Owner of Veranda Estate Homes, bringing more than 25 years of experience in residential design and custom home building.
Melissa approaches every home from the inside out, beginning with how a family will actually live in the space. Function, flow, proportion and architectural detail come first, followed by the materials, millwork, lighting and finishes that give each home its individual character.
Her experience extends well beyond interiors. Having spent more than two decades working alongside construction teams, trades and craftsmen, Melissa brings a builder's understanding to the design process. She personally reviews and hand-sketches floor plans, cabinetry, millwork and interior details, identifying opportunities and potential problems long before they reach the construction stage.
Known for being decisive and straightforward, Melissa believes good design is not about adding more. It is about knowing what belongs, what doesn't, and where an investment will make the greatest difference.
Her work has been featured in House Beautiful, Avenue Magazine and numerous design and building publications and podcasts. She is also an Expert designer on The Expert, where she consults with homeowners and design professionals throughout North America.
Together with her husband and business partner, Rob Hryszko, Melissa has spent more than two decades building Veranda Estate Homes and creating one-of-one custom homes throughout Calgary and the surrounding acreage communities.
Rob Hryszko
Builder & Co-Owner
Rob Hryszko is the Builder and Co-Owner of Veranda Estate Homes, with more than 40 years of hands-on experience in residential construction and custom home building.
Rob began his career working directly in the trades, giving him an understanding of construction that comes from having built homes from the ground up. That experience continues to shape the way Veranda builds today, with an emphasis on quality, proper execution and doing things right the first time.
He remains closely involved throughout construction, working directly with Veranda's site team, trades and suppliers and overseeing the details that determine how a home performs long after possession. From structure and building systems to materials, craftsmanship and site execution, Rob brings a practical and highly experienced perspective to every project.
Known for his straightforward approach and ability to solve problems, Rob believes a well-built home is the result of careful planning, experienced trades and accountability at every stage of construction.
Together with his wife and business partner, Melissa Hryszko, Rob has spent more than two decades building Veranda Estate Homes and developing long-standing relationships with many of Calgary's leading trades, craftsmen and suppliers.
